Asics is a Japanese company that officially began business on September 1, 1949 with the name of Onitsuka Co, Ltd. founder – Kihachiro Onitsuka – set up shop in Kobe, Japan. Onitsuka has a mission. He won the marathon in world record time and became the first athlete to win gold medals in two Olympic marathons in a row. The relationship between Onitsuka and Bikila remained, and when he died Bikila Onitsuka donate one million dollars for Unicef in Bikila ’s memory.

Not until 1977 that Onitsuka Co., Ltd. became Asics. New company name is an acronym for, “there anima in corpore sano.” This phrase translated into Latin, “sound mind in a sound body.” Asics continues to be a favorite among Olympic athletes during the 20th and 21st century. Their line of running shoes is considered as one of the best in the world.
